miles shores acres is the project name for experimental beaded objects by dan kirk, who comes from a family of beaders from maternal lineage rooted on their ancestral homelands of the Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw Indians (south-central oregon coast). dan began beading there, among the dunes, and thus the process of beading is place-based, a way for them to feel close to home over many miles, shores and acres.
miles shores acres’ pieces are all one-of-a-kind and are fluid in concept - they appear to be playful, yet formal and exhibit a style of beadwork that wants to be displayed on all bodies and genders.
embrace “bygone” objects, processes and traditions, bash all borders, dismantle the cop in your head, go hard on style.
